Sakya Gompa

San Juan Island :: Date Finished:1990
This was one of Ravenhill’s most interesting projects.
We built a Sakya Buddhist retreat on the wooded slopes of Mt Dallas, San Juan Island. The design, developed from sketches to blueprint by Peter Kilpatrick, is an interesting incorporation of North West style and Tibetan architectural elements. The interior was embellished by traditional Buddhist painting, done over the period of a year by a Tibetan artist-in-residence.
This site receives it’s power from alternative sources and claims off-the-grid status.
