Agosta Home
2001 AIA Seattle Gold Medal Winner
The Agosta Home, William and Karin Agosta's San Juan Island home, built by Ravenhill Construction, Inc. and designed by Patkau Architects of Vancouver, B.C. has received one of three Gold Medal awards at the recent 50th annual AIA Seattle Honor Awards program. In the words of one juror, the Agosta Home "...creates a threshold entered from an open meadow...as if it had grown out of the ground, an elemental poetic structure."
Two other entries, the Todd Bunkhouse designed by the Seattle Architectural firm GGLO and the Martin Home designed by Prentiss Associates of Seattle and Friday Harbor, were also built by Ravenhill Construction, Inc. The Lockwood House on Lopez Island, a George Suyama design built by Dan Paulson Construction of Friday Harbor, was also submitted for consideration. Juror Maryann Thompson of Thompson Architects of Boston said the Seattle AIA's 189 submissions were of the highest quality she had ever judged.
Ravenhill Construction, Inc.'s owner, Peter Kilpatrick sees this award as confirmation that the highest level of homes are being designed and built in the San Juan Islands. "The standard of quality in the homes built by local construction companies are continually considered to be of the highest in the country." Ravenhill Construction, Inc. has had work featured in the 2001 July/August issue of Seattle Magazine (www.seattlemag.com), the 2001 July/August issue of Seattle Homes and Lifestyles Magazine (www.seattlehomesmag.com) and in the newly released Taunton press book: The Cabin: Inspiration for the Classic American Getaway.
